Steam Cake

For those who want to make cake and don't have an oven at home, this Steamed Cake recipe is specially for you. It is also good for those who are in a hurry because the baking time is just in between 15 to 20 minutes. This is also easy on your budget since it only requires 4 ingredients, can you believe it? With just 4 eggs, a cup of sugar, a cup of flour and 1/8 cup of melted butter, you can now make a delicious cake. Many would ask is it possible to make a cake without baking powder. I was not really surprise why there was no baking powder on the ingredients since I've baked a similar cake (Pianono, a Filipino version of Roll Cakes) which did not require baking powder.  The reason why you don't need to add baking powder, it's because the egg in this recipe serves as the rising agent. Beating the egg with sugar can increase the volume of the cake adding air to the mixture and making the cake soft and fluffy when cooked. As I said it only uses 4 ingredients but you can make some variation to this recipe. Adding a pinch of salt elevates the flavor to this cake. If you like eggs, well this cake is just for you because you would smell the fragrance of the egg in every bite. If you don't like eggs, you may also make this into chocolate flavored steam cake. If you decide to add cocoa powder to this recipe, I suggest adding 1 teaspoon of baking powder to make sure that your cake will not sink. The cocoa powder might deflate the air of the egg mixture. Another thing, they say adding a little coffee to your chocolate cakes will enhance the flavor of the cocoa, but only add a little coffee to the mixture, adding too much coffee turns your chocolate flavor into mocha. Unless you like to make mocha flavored cake.

If you want to try to experiment more flavors to your steamed cakes, be sure you are ready to accept failures. There is no guarantee that you will get the perfect result. But if you don't want to fail, follow the recipes that have been proven and tested to have a good result. I'm no expert, I am still learning. I'm just happy to share what I have learn. I am very grateful for those people who shared their knowledge through their videos and blog. I learned all these by just watching and reading a lot of recipes in the internet.  Let us learn together. Happy Cooking!

You will need:

4 eggs (in room temperature)
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour (sifted)
1/8 cup melted butter (let it cool)
Steps:

Line a rectangular pan with aluminum foil or wax paper.
Grease it with melted butter and set aside.

Using an electric mixer, beat eggs until it becomes light yellow color.
Add sugar and continue beating the mixture until its consistency is semi stiff.

Sift flour to the mixture and fold it slowly.
If you beat it fast it will sink the batter and the cake will not rise.
Add the melted butter and fold it slowly.

Pour in the batter to the baking pan.
Place it in the steamer that you already preheated.
Steam in a medium high heat for 15 to 20 minutes.
Cover the steamer with the lid.

Check if it's cook by placing a wooden stick and if it comes clean,
it is already done.
Remove from the steamer, let it cool and serve.
